The National Hedgehog Survey is being
launched this year and is looking for volunteers/recorders who would be interested in getting involved?
The University of Reading and Nottingham Trent University, in collaboration with People’s Trust for Endangered Species and British Hedgehog Preservation Society are conducting a National Hedgehog Survey, which aims to map the occupancy of hedgehogs across England and Wales and to further investigate the relationship with badgers. Download the Volunteer Handbook which gives more information about the survey and protocol.
As part of the wider project, they are also seeking to appoint several regional coordinators across Wales who can dispense equipment to volunteers in their area. This would involve being sent the tunnels and other equipment and then storing them and liaising with the volunteers for them to come and collect the equipment and then arrange for it to be dropped back once the volunteer has done the survey. If this is something you or anyone else you may know of in your area might be interested in taking on please contact EmilyThomas, Key Species Monitoring Officer.
