Wildlife on my Doorstep Competition

Thanks to funding from the LNP Cymru Project we have three £100 Natural History Book Service (NHBS) to give away. The 3 winners can use these to help buy wildlife identification guides or equipment to help improve their wildlife identification skills.

If you live in Powys or the Brecon Beacons National Park and want to learn more about the wildlife around you and how to identify and record what you see you can enter this competition.

BIS Bulletin July 2021 - Unrecorded Squares

Our latest BIS Bulletin has details of our new BIS 20 Challenge, a prize winning competition to make records in the unrecorded squares in Powys and Brecon Beacons National Park. There are 131 monads, or 1km OS map grid squares in the BIS area for which we have no records. Our challenge is for you to make at least 5 records in any of the unrecorded squares before the end of September 2021. This is a prize winning BIS 20 Challenge as we celebrate our 20th anniversary. Yellow-legged Clearwing - a first for Breconshire

The rarely recorded moth, Yellow legged clearwing has been recorded in Breconshire for the first time. County Moth Recorder Norman Lowe has been using clearwing lures attempting to attract particualr species. After success in neighbouring Monmouthshire (west of Abergavenny) & within the Brecon Beacons National Park, Norman sucessfully attracted this male in Llangorse - a first record in VC42 and only the 3rd in Powys & Brecon Beacons - the 2nd being the lured male in Monmouthshire mentio
